Building large scale historical databases is a long term undertaking. New technologies in the form of hardware and software during the digitalization period enables new means to provide the information. At Stockholms City Archives, with more than two decades of experiences in digitizing large historical archives, we have gone through a number of tecnological changes. We have made it our business to take advantage of these changes in order to create new and better ways of disseminating our digital holdings.

In the paper I will present the different strategies that we pursue at present to meet the demand from our different users in the research community in a broad sence. This involves the use of different medias and various ways of pre-processing the digitized sources to fit for different kind of uses. We also try different forms of collaborations with the users in order to get valuable feedback for how to go ahead in our dissemination undertakings.

We have over the years been very conserned with the development of user interfaces. This is still a very important issue when we look at new ways to search, retrieve, process, analyze and present the information in our digital databases. Even more so since we are activly working in ALM-projects where the cultural heritage is used as a source for research and education.
